The Buffalo Bills had another disappointing performance this week, getting run over by Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts by a final score of 41-15. There is certainly plenty of blame to go around but when looking at this game, these are the five main reasons for the Bills blowout loss starting with the run defense.

Buffalo Bills Run Defense

Without question, the biggest issue on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts was the Buffalo Bills run defense. They allowed Jonathan Taylor to pick up 185 rushing yards on 32 carries with an average of 5.8 yards per carry. He also found the end zone four times on the ground, while adding one through the air.

However, it wasn’t just Taylor as the Colts as a team ran for 264 rushing yards and three players (Taylor, Nyheim Hines, and Carson Wentz) had at least one run go for 18 yards or more.

The Buffalo Bills defense was missing some key players this week, like Star Lotulelei and Tremaine Edmunds, however it is hard to imagine both of these players would have made that much of a difference.

The Bills defensive line got dominated in the trenches which set up huge holes for Taylor and once he got to the second or third level showed elusiveness that forced missed tackles and allowed him to pick up more yards.

This year, the Bills defense has done a good job against the run and maybe Jonathan Taylor is just in that category with Derrick Henry where teams won’t stop him but just hope to contain him. However, they could face another big test this week if Alvin Kamara returns so the coaching staff will need to figure out the answer over the next few days.
