Even after a bad loss, the top seed is still in play for the Buffalo Bills

No one predicted the Bills would lose to Jacksonville last week. Similarly, many analysts expected the Baltimore Ravens to beat the Miami Dolphins into submission on Thursday Night Football and cruise to their seventh win on the season. Fortunately for Buffalo, Miami beat Baltimore and handed them their third conference loss on the year and the Ravens now have the same number of losses as the Bills.

Only Baltimore and Tennessee have a better win percentage than the Bills through nine weeks at .778 and .667 respectively. If Buffalo beats the Jets on Sunday, they’ll leapfrog the Ravens and the Los Angeles Chargers in the standings and rest at the two seed in the conference through 10 weeks.

Tennessee has the easiest remaining schedule in the NFL with an opponents’ combined win percentage of .362. They have a reasonable opportunity to win the rest of their games and finish as the one seed. But if the NFL has taught viewers anything this season, it’s that no matchup has a guaranteed outcome.

The Bills are not out of the race for the number one seed. Their biggest challenge will be finishing with a better record than a team that has a much easier remaining schedule. Tennessee also holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Buffalo due to their victory over the Bills in Week 6.

If everything falls their way, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Buffalo will still earn the coveted one seed in the postseason.
