Reggie Gilliam
Season-high snaps: 22 (Week 5)
The root cause for the Buffalo Bills’ inability to rush the ball effectively is open for discussion and it could be the running backs but also could be the blocking up front. The offensive line has been shuffled a few times during the season and there hasn’t been a combination that has resulted in the Bills finding success on the ground.
One way the Buffalo Bills could help create more running room is by putting a blocker like Reggie Gilliam in front of the ball carrier. The Bills haven’t really used a fullback since the days of Patrick DiMarco, who was with the team from 2017 to 2019.
This offseason the Buffalo Bills officially listed Reggie Gilliam as a fullback on the roster, who was a tight end last year. One of the benefits of putting Gilliam on the field is that it doesn’t necessarily indicate the Bills are running the ball as Gilliam has shown he can make some plays as a pass catcher and this could open up more play-action plays for the Bills.
This week, I expect the Buffalo Bills to run more traditional run plays and this will mean having Josh Allen under center and Reggie Gilliam in the backfield leading the way for the ball carrier.
