Vernon Butler

Another former Carolina Panthers defensive linemen the Bills signed prior to the 2020 season was Vernon Butler. The former first round pick was coming off a breakout season in 2019 and was expected to be a rotational player last year.

However, with Star Lotulelei opting out of the 2020 season this moved Butler up the depth chart and he was a starter for this defense. He would end up appearing in 14 games and starting nine but only had 18 total tackles and no sacks.

This season, he has dropped on the depth chart and appeared in only five games and has two total tackles. Now that Butler is in the final year of his deal, with not much production to this point, it wouldn’t make sense for the Bills to bring him back this offseason.
