Buffalo Bills stay in the Top 10 in power rankings after Week 9 loss
NFL.com: Buffalo Bills drop four spots to eighth overall
Current Week’s Ranking: 8
Last Week’s Ranking: 4
The power rankings at NFL.com were tied with Bleacher Report for the biggest drop this week, as they fell four spots down to eight. Dan Hanzus wrote:
"Allen turned the ball over three times on Sunday, but it wasn’t his struggle alone: The offensive line continually failed its star QB, while play-caller Brian Daboll was unable to cook up an in-game adjustment to counter Jacksonville’s two-high safety scheme that took away Buffalo’s beloved big-play strikes. Is the book out on Daboll’s offense in the same way we’ve seen Andy Reid’s formerly unstoppable attack sputter out in Kansas City? The coming weeks will tell us a lot about this team and its Super Bowl hopes."
The blame certainly was shared on Sunday against the Jaguars as Hanzus notes. The Buffalo Bills can’t expect to win many games if Josh Allen turns the ball over but it’s hard to blame just Allen for those turnovers with how little protection he got from the players blocking in front of him.
This was also a week that there seemingly wasn’t any adjustment from offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. The Jaguars entered this game with a defensive game plan of keeping everything in front of them by dropping two safeties deep.
In theory, Daboll should have countered that with more runs up the middle and quicker passes. This would have not only kept the offense on track but allowed Allen to get the ball out quicker and not take as many hits.
