Buffalo Bills offense struggles in a favorable matchup

Buffalo Bills offense starts slow…again- For the second straight week, it was an ugly first half against a defense that is near the bottom of the league in most statistical categories. This week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Bills had only 132 total yards with an average of 4.1 yards per play.

On their first two drives, the Bills were able to at least most the ball with two straight drives of 12 plays with both ending in field goals but closed the first half with two drives of only five plays each drive and totaling only 21 yards.

The offensive line is a problem- The Buffalo Bills had a new starting offensive line due to injuries with Spencer Brown and Jon Feliciano ruled out. The biggest change was the addition of Cody Ford, who replaced Feliciano this week, and he joined Ike Boettger, who has started his second straight game at left guard, and Daryl Williams back at right tackle for the second straight week.

Josh Allen hasn’t had much time in the pocket and has been sacked twice and hit three times in the first half, which certainly is playing a role in the struggles in the first half for the offense.

The biggest missing piece is probably Spencer Brown, and until he returns, Josh Allen is going to be spending a lot of time scrambling.

Not good from Josh Allen- The offensive line will need to shoulder a great deal of blame for this performance but this was not a good performance from Josh Allen, particularly protecting the football. He finished the game with two interceptions and a fumble lost, which are the most turnovers Allen has had in a game since Week 1 of the 2019 season.

Regardless of the opponent, it is tough to win in the NFL when a team turns the ball over as much as the Buffalo Bills did against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Where was Stefon Diggs?- The Buffalo Bills have a wide receiver group that has a number of players that can beat a defense. However, in games like today offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and Josh Allen need to make it a point to get Stefon Diggs involved.

On the first drive, after the Bills fell down 9-6 in the fourth quarter, Josh Allen found Stefon Diggs on two straight plays for completions of 12 and 15 yards. He found him again later in the drive for another reception for five receiving yards and helped the Bills find some rhythm. Prior to that drive, Diggs only had two receptions for 25 yards.
