Buffalo Bills Trade Target #1: Andrew Norwell

The Buffalo Bills offensive line has been a work in progress almost the entire season. They started the year with almost the same offensive line from a season ago with the only change being Cody Ford getting the start at right guard.

However, this group struggled and the Bills eventually moved Spencer Brown into the starting lineup at right tackle, moved Daryl Williams to right guard, and Cody Ford to the bench. This past weekend against the Dolphins, the Bills were forced to move Williams back to tackle with Brown out due to a back injury. They then had Jon Feliciano at right guard, and Ike Boettger got the start at left guard.

Once again, the results weren’t great and the Bills really struggled on the ground.

While it would only be one player, adding someone like Andrew Norwell would be a significant boost and could help this group. At the start of the season, Norwell was ranked as the 13th best guard in the NFL by Pro Football Focus.

While they note that his run blocking has been at the same level since joining Jacksonville, I believe he would still be an upgrade over what the Buffalo Bills currently have. This, combined with the fact that he is an excellent pass blocker, means he would be a great addition.

During the offseason, there were reports from Jason La Canfora that the Jaguars were trying to move their starting guard. Now that the Jaguars are 1-6 and likely heading to another losing season, they may be more motivated to trade him.

The challenge will be whether or not the Buffalo Bills could add Norwell’s contract and stay under the salary cap. According to Spotrac, the Bills only have $2.6 million in cap space while Norwell’s cap hit this year is $15 million. There would need to be additional moves to make something like that happen.
