Buffalo Bills offense struggling early against the Dolphins after the bye
It has been close to a month since the Buffalo Bills played a game in front of BillsMafia and coming out of the bye, the offense is struggling and looks out of sync. Midway through the second quarter, the Bills have only been able to muster three points against a Dolphins defense that has not been good this year.
It is hard to pinpoint exactly where the issue lies because the Bills entered this game with a number of changes on this side of the ball. The Buffalo Bills were without Spencer Brown and had to shuffle the offensive line with Daryl Williams returning to right tackle, Jon Feliciano moving back to right guard, where he played last season, and Ike Boettger getting the start at left guard.
The offensive line has done a good job protecting Josh Allen to this point but have struggled to really get any type of push in run blocking. If Josh Allen’s 34-yard run in the first quarter is not included, the Bills have only nine rushing yards on six carries.
As for Allen, he has been off in the passing game as well. On the Bills opening drive, the Buffalo Bills quarterback missed Stefon Diggs on a make-able pass that what would have been a first down. Then on the second drive, Allen missed Emmanuel Sanders deep that would have been the team’s biggest play of the game.
The fourth drive of the game got off to a promising start with the Josh Allen finding Cole Beasley for 20 yards but then came to a screeching halt. After a short completion to Stefon Diggs, Josh Allen failed to complete passes to Emmanuel Sanders and Diggs which forced the Bills to once again punt.
The Buffalo Bills have now had to punt on three of their first four drives and are tied with the Miami Dolphins at three. In a game the Buffalo Bills were expected to win, the start has to be a little concerning for this offense.
