The Buffalo Bills ensured they would have enough depth at tight end for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins by calling up tight end Kahale Warring from their practice squad on Saturday.

The Bills needed to make the move with Dawson Knox missing this week due to a broken hand. He suffered the injury against the Tennessee Titans and it will likely be a few more weeks before he is ready to return.

His replacement for this week is going to be Tommy Sweeney, who was a seventh round pick in 2019. He appeared in six games as a rookie and caught eight passes for 114 yards however missed all last season after starting the year on the PUP list. He was set to return but then developing myocarditis from COVID-19 that forced him to miss the remainder of the season.

While the Bills knew that Sweeney was going to be the replacement for Knox, the move to call up a tight end from the practice squad was expected. The Bills had really only two players at the position with Sweeney and fullback Reggie Gilliam, who played tight end last year.

The Buffalo Bills had two tight ends on the practice squad with Warring, and undrafted free agent Quintin Morris. While there wasn’t any indication which would be called up Warring is the logical choice.

Warring was a third round pick by the Houston Texans in the 2019 NFL Draft but it wasn’t until last year that he appeared in a regular season game. He would finish last season with three receptions for 35 yards.
