Buffalo Bills trade for a tight end or sign a free agent
This probably won’t be an option for the Buffalo Bills unless Dawson Knox is expected to be out for a longer period of time. However, if this is the route they go they would need to find a player who could step in as a starter but still contribute in a smaller role once Knox was to return.
One player that would make sense in this situation would be Pittsburgh Steelers’ tight end Eric Ebron. He has recently started to lose playing time to rookie Pat Freiermuth and the Bills likely could get him for a late round pick.
Ebron is an experienced tight end who has shown he can be effective in two tight end offenses when splitting time with players like Brandon Pettigrew when he was with the Lions or Jack Doyle when he was with the Colts.
Among the current free agent tight ends, the likely options would be either Trey Burton or Tyler Eifert.
In the end, I don’t believe the Buffalo Bills are going to consider going this route because if they were, they would have tried to get a player in earlier to try and get him up to speed during the bye week.
