What is the plan at tight end after the bye for the Buffalo Bills?

For most of the season, the Buffalo Bills have been lucky in terms of injuries. However, on Tuesday they found out they are going to have to deal with their first significant injury of the season when it was reported that Dawson Knox had suffered a broken hand against the Tennessee Titans.

This is certainly disappointing news as Knox was having a breakout year and was a big part of this offense to start the year. As Mike Garafolo notes in his tweet, the timeline isn’t clear about when he can return and the bye week certainly helps.

However, it is unlikely that he would be back for their next game, which is in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins. The coaching staff will then have some decisions to make as the tight end position wasn’t necessarily deep with Tommy Sweeney being the only other tight end listed on the roster, with fullback Reggie Gilliam also a possible option.

The team may feel confident in the tight ends on their practice squad with Quintin Morris and Kahale Warring. They could call up either leading up to the games and not have to make any roster moves.

This could be an option if Knox misses only one or two games but if they move Knox to the injured reserve, the team may look at potential free agents or trade options to help until their starting tight end is able to return.
