Buffalo Bills: 3 key matchups in Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans
QB Josh Allen vs. QB Ryan Tannehill
Last year, Josh Allen had one of his worst games against the Titans.
The Bills’ gunslinger looked downright lost against Tennessee’s pass defense, completing 26-of-41 attempts for 263 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while his 77.6 passer rating marked his fifth-worst number of the season.
On the other hand, Ryan Tannehill was extremely effective and efficient against the Buffalo Bills. Throwing the ball just 28 times, he completed 21 passes for 195 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a 129.3 passer rating. Additionally, Tannehill totaled 42 rushing yards and a score on the ground. All things considered, it was arguably his best outing of 2020.
The Bills can’t afford to have these two scenarios play out in Week 6 if it wants to fair better this time around.
In 2021, Tennessee has been one of the most beatable defenses through the air, as its 7.9 yards per attempt allowed is tied for fifth-most in the NFL. This means Allen is walking into one of the best matchups for passers this season. On the flip side, Buffalo is allowing an NFL-best 5.0 yards per attempt to opposing quarterbacks, making this setup absolutely brutal for Tannehill.
Given how well the Bills’ defense has performed against the pass, there won’t be many games where Allen doesn’t finish as the more effective passer. As was the case with Patrick Mahomes last week, expect Buffalo’s defense to make life difficult for Tannehill.
