Buffalo Bills: Game grades for each position group from Week 5
Quarterback
Josh Allen played a nearly perfect game of football with 315 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, 59 rushing yards (including a hurdle in the fourth quarter on a key third down) and one rushing touchdown. He wasn’t necessarily as accurate as he has been in the past with only a 58% completion percentage but it didn’t matter with how he was throwing the ball down the field and picking up yards in chunks.
Grade: A
Running Backs
If there is one position group that was disappointing based on their performance, it has to be the running backs. The Chiefs defense has struggled against the run and had allowed the second most rushing yards through the first four weeks.
Devin Singletary and Zack Moss really couldn’t get much going at all combining for 62 rushing yards on 17 carries. However, Moss did find some success through the air with three receptions for 55 yards which helped. This is something the Bills need to work on because a run game is going to be critical late in games to extend drives as they try to burn clock.
Grade: C+
Wide Receivers
It wasn’t a high volume game for the wide receivers as Stefon Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders, Gabriel Davis, and Cole Beasley combined for only 13 targets but two players in particular made the most of their work.
Emmanuel Sanders in particular was the star of this group with three receptions for 54 yards and two touchdowns. This was his second game in three weeks with multiple touchdown receptions and he is becoming a bigger part of this offense than originally thought.
As for Diggs, he had only five targets all game but had a 61-yard reception on 3rd and 8 that set the team up for a field goal and a 17-10 lead. It was a key point in the game and helped the Buffalo Bills stay head of the Chiefs.
Grade: A
Tight Ends
I have typically grouped wide receiver and tight ends together in my game grades but Dawson Knox’s performance on Sunday night warrants it’s own section. The Bills third-year tight end has looked like a completely different tight end this year and is becoming a key part of this offense.
He made a number of key plays during the game, and outside of Josh Allen, was the most important person on this offense. He finished the game with three receptions for 117 yards and one touchdown, which helped extend the Bills lead to two scores right before halftime.
The emergence of Dawson Knox just creates more versatility for a passing attack that was already tough for defenses to stop. This is exactly what the Buffalo Bills were hoping for from Knox when they drafted him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Grade: A+
Offensive Line
For the second straight week, the Bills had a new starting offensive line with the return of Jon Feliciano at left guard. However, the team kept the same right side with Daryl Williams at right guard and rookie Spencer Brown at right tackle.
The results were excellent as Josh Allen really didn’t feel much pressure most of the night which allowed him to take those deep shots to players like Stefon Diggs, Dawson Knox and Emmanuel Sanders. The offensive line looked great on Sunday night and this will be a big boost for this offense moving forward.
