Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs: How to watch and final thoughts for Week 5
The Buffalo Bills are not the same defense the Chiefs have seen in the past
In the first matchup of 2020 against these teams in Orchard Park, NY, Buffalo gave up 245 rushing yards to a high-powered passing offense. And in recent weeks, Chiefs running back, Clyde Edwards-Helaire has found success coming off back-to-back 100 yard rushing performances.
Buffalo’s game plan against Kansas City in that matchup was not to get beat deep, which they succeeded in. However, their rushing defense in 2020 was a noticeable weakness on defense and the Chiefs thoroughly exposed it consistently throughout that game.
This season, Buffalo’s anchor, Star Lotulelei has returned and he demands double teams allowing the Bills to feast on the opponent’s running game. In just four games, the Bills have only allowed 272 rushing yards and just one rushing touchdown.
Aside from the running game, Buffalo still has one of the best defensive backfields in football. And with the return of Lotulelei and a regenerated defensive line, the 2021 Bills defense is one Mahomes just hasn’t seen in person to this point.
Sunday night’s matchup is highly anticipated. Both teams are thought to be the class of the conference and a rematch of the AFC Championship Game in Week 5 is bound for fireworks. If the Bills are aggressive, able to score lots of points, and live up to their high defensive ranking, they’ll have a shot to take a commanding lead in the conference in the race for the coveted number one playoff seed.
