ESPN: Football Power Index (FPI) Buffalo Bills sit at no. 3 and alone as the best team in the AFC

Current Rank: 3
Last Week: 5

Josh Allen took over the game on Sunday. He had his way with the Washington defense; completing 74 percent of his passes for 358 yards while accounting for five touchdowns. The Bills offense has started to click. But just as Alaina Getzenberg notes, its yet to be seen if Allen can sustain his play over the course of this long season.

"“He had five total touchdowns and found success in the middle of the field, completing 20 of 25 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown on throws between the painted field numbers, per ESPN Stats & Information research. Allen’s overall play should improve from the small sample size of the first three weeks, but it remains to be seen if he will match last season’s consistent high-level success for an entire campaign.” — Alaina Getzenberg"

Through two weeks, it was widely speculated in the media that Allen was going to experience a regression in 2021. However, the experts who quickly condemned Allen in the early part of the season are already eating crow.

The Bills will be a tough-out for any opponent. And to this point, they’ve only beaten themselves. As the best team in the AFC, according to ESPN’s FPI Power Rankings, all three phases must remain consistent for the Bills to represent the conference in Super Bowl LVI.
