Can the Buffalo Bills avoid a 0-2 start?

While losing two games in a row isn’t uncommon and in fact the last three Super Bowl Champions (Bucs, Chiefs, Patriots) all lost two consecutive games at some point in the season.

However, there is something about losing the first two to start the season that usually is the signal of a down season. Since 1990, under 12% of teams that start 0-2 make the playoffs and that number drops to 5.8% of teams that start 0-2 that go on to win their division.

This is certainly a pivotal week for the Bills because they would like to avoid those historical trends but also because this is a divisional game. One of the reasons the Buffalo Bills won the AFC East last year was because they swept their divisional opponents.

When 2019 is included, the Bills currently are 11-1 against the AFC East.

There is no question this week is important because dropping a game to the Dolphins, who looked good against the Patriots, will put them essentially three games behind the divison leader. The Dolphins would be two up in the win column and own the tiebreaker in head to head matchup.
