Buffalo Bills: 5 players with work to do before Week 2
Emmanuel Sanders
I can’t put a ton of blame on the Bills wide receivers in this game because the Pittsburgh Steelers have a Top 5 defensive unit in the NFL and put together a brilliant game plan to control the Bills. If there is anything to nitpick about the Bills weapons, it is the drops. Bills receivers had three dropped passes in the Week 1 matchup, including two big drops by Emmanuel Sanders and Cole Beasley.
In the case of Sanders’ drop, he was covered heavily and had the defensive back draped over his back and the ball was knocked out but was a huge momentum killer for the Bills. As a 12-year veteran, Sanders needs to make those kinds of catches and help out his young quarterback who was struggling. Against a good team like Pittsburgh, when Stefon Diggs will be getting all of the defense’s attention, Sanders is the perfect candidate to have a breakout game. Sanders would finish with four catches for 52 yards off eight targets.
With Gabriel Davis emerging as one of Allen’s favorite receivers to look for, opposing defenses might not pay close attention to the 34-year-old Sanders. Week 2 against Miami brings an elite secondary of Xavien Howard and Bryon Jones. If Buffalo can connect on a few deep shots like they attempted against Pittsburgh and get the confidence back, Sanders and the Bills wide receivers could have a field day in Miami.
