These are the inactives for Week 1 for the Buffalo Bills against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Entering this weekend, the Buffalo Bills had a short injury report but knew they would be without their starting defensive tackle Star Lotulelei. He was expected to be a big part of this defense, especially against the run.

His absence certainly creates a challenge and the team is going to be looking at the other four players at the position to try and replace him. However, the one player that could be a difference-maker would be Harrison Phillips. If he is able to return to the level he played in 2019, which he started to show in the preseason, this will be a big boost for the defense and how they do slowing down Najee Harris.

The other inactives for the Buffalo Bills this week is second round rookie Boogie Basham, linebacker Andre Smith, running back Zack Moss, rookie Tommy Doyle.

Zack Moss is a surprise inactive for the Buffalo Bills

The surprise among the inactives this week has to be running back Zack Moss, who is a healthy scratch according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The second-year running back was expected to be a big part of the run game alongside Devin Singletary.

This week in particular could have been a big week in a game that is expected to be a grind-it-out type game. Last year against the Steelers, Moss had 13 carries with a majority coming on the final drive that went over seven minutes to secure the Bills win.

With Moss inactive, it would make sense that Devin Singletary is a featured running back and gets a majority of the work with Matt Breida being the pass-catching, change of pace back.
