The Buffalo Bills didn’t have many training camp battles this year with almost all starters on offense and defense returning from last year. However, one starter who had to seemingly earn his starting job back was Levi Wallace.

The former undrafted free agent by the Buffalo Bills returned to the team on a one-year deal. However, he returned knowing there was going to be competition for the starting job with Dane Jackson for the job opposite Tre’Davious White this training camp and preseason. Jackson showed some flashes during his rookie season last year and it made sense that he could earn the starting job this year.

The results from this summer ended up being no different than the prior years as Wallace once again comes out of training camp as the starter at cornerback. On Friday, Sean McDermott confirmed that on WGR550.

Wallace stepped in as a starter midway through his rookie season in 2018 and since that game has started every regular season game he was available. He did miss four games last year due to an ankle injury.

In 35 career regular season games, Wallace has 161 total tackles, 20 passes defended, and four interceptions. One team he has played particularly well against is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who the Buffalo Bills will be playing Sunday, as he has two of his four career interceptions against them.

The confirmation of Wallace as the starter means the Bills will have the same starters in the secondary for the third straight year as he will be joined by Tre’Davious White, nickel Taron Johnson, and safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer.

The Buffalo Bills secondary is expected to be challenged this week as the Pittsburgh Steelers have an excellent trio of wide receivers. The veteran Juju Smith-Schuster is joined by Chase Claypool, last year’s second round pick, and Dionate Johnson, who was a third round pick in 2019.
