These are some of the early storylines ahead of the Buffalo Bills game Sunday against the Steelers.

The regular season is finally here and the Buffalo Bills are back on the practice field Tuesday as they begin preparation for their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. While it is early in the season, this is a game that can have serious ramifications at the end of the year in terms of playoff seeding.

Both of these teams are expected to compete for playoff spots this year and head-to-head matchup is one of the tiebreakers if that is needed to determine the seed in the playoffs. That is why this is one of four early storylines that fans should be watching heading into Sunday’s game.

Playoff Implications early in 2021 season

It is hard to imagine talking about playoffs in the first regular season game but when the Pittsburgh Steelers are your opponent, it needs to be discussed. Last year, the Bills were the two seed with a 13-3 record while the Steelers were third at 12-4.

While there were 16 regular-season games and every game carries a certain level of importance, the Buffalo Bills 26-15 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers late in the season played a major role in Buffalo finishing ahead of Pittsburgh.

There is a good chance that these two teams could find themselves with similar records at the end of the year and point to this Week 1 matchup as the deciding factor.
