Will the run defense be improved?

Last season, the Buffalo Bills defense struggled against the run and finished the regular season allowing 119.6 yards per game on the ground. This ranked 17th in the league and this is something they will need to improve this year.

The hope is that the return of Star Lotulelei will be able to help as he is expected to step back in as the starter after missing last year after opting out due to the pandemic. He is a player that doesn’t generate big stats but is a player that helps make his teammates better around him by the way he can anchor the middle of the line and engage multiple blockers.

However, he will need help and the Buffalo Bills will need improvements from Harrison Phillips and Vernon Butler. Both players are expected to be key parts of the team’s rotation at defensive tackle this year.

They will also need better play from their defensive ends, and this part of the game could dictate that rotation mentioned on the previous page. If there is a defensive end who stands out at setting the edge and helping against the run, could earn him more snaps this season.
