What will be different at running back for the Buffalo Bills?

There aren’t many questions on the offensive side of the ball with Josh Allen under center, Stefon Diggs catching passes and Brian Daboll calling the plays. This past year, the Buffalo Bills finished second in the league in points scored and third in passing yards.

While the passing game was excellent, the run game didn’t really impress which was a surprise due to the talent they have. The Buffalo Bills drafted Devin Singletary in the third round in 2019 and then drafted Zack Moss in the third round in 2020.

This offseason, the team recognized they wanted more speed at the position and signed free agent Matt Breida. This raises the first question for the Buffalo Bills this season as they have typically only had three running backs active on game day and with Taiwan Jones a key player on special teams, this leaves only two available spots which likely goes to Devin Singletary and Zack Moss.

While Breida, if he is active on game day, will be primarily a pass catching back, there is another question of who might emerge as the lead back between Singletary and Moss. All signs would point to Moss as he has the skill set and frame to be a featured running back but Devin Singletary looked great during the preseason.

The Buffalo Bills are not going to move away from being a passing offense but having that threat of a run game, especially late in games when running the clock down, is what this group needs to take that next step.
