Buffalo Bills Special Teams

Final Grade: A-

The Buffalo Bills special teams went through some significant changes this offseason as they added a new punter, Matt Haack, who replaced Corey Bojorquez. They also had to find the replacement for returner Andre Roberts.

For Haack, he had 11 punts with an average of 42.5 yards per punt and had five of his 11 punts downed inside the 20. This was one of the reasons the Bills were interested in adding Haack is that while he doesn’t have the biggest leg, he is very accurate. He did have one miscue, in the game against the Bears, but other than that looked to be very consistent.

Speaking of consistent, there isn’t anyone more consistent than Tyler Bass. He started his rookie season a little shaky but in the second half of last year, he rarely missed. That trend continued into the preseason as he made all five of his field goals, including one from 50 yards out, as well as all five extra point attempts.

The return job hasn’t officially been declared for Isaiah McKenzie but it seems like it a foregone conclusion with his only competition on the 53-man roster, Marquez Stevenson, being placed on injured reserve. It was Stevenson that had the play of the preseason on special teams when he returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown.

The Buffalo Bills should feel good about where their special teams are coming out of the preseason.
