The Buffalo Bills wanted to improve the tight end position this offseason but are essentially going into the 2021 season with the same group with Dawson Knox, Tommy Sweeney, and Reggie Gilliam on the active roster.

However, general manager Brandon Beane has tried to find other ways to improve this position and did so with recent additions on the practice squad. The team brought back undrafted free agent Quintin Morris, who was with the team during training camp and preseason.

They left one spot open on the practice squad when they initially announced the group which the team announced would go to Kahale Warring. The former San Diego State tight end was drafted the same year as Dawson Knox, and actually went 10 spots before Knox in the third round.

Warring missed his entire rookie season after being placed on injured reserve and started the 2020 season also on injured reserve. However, he got a chance to see the field last year and played in seven games and finished the season with only three receptions for 35 yards.

While Warring at one time was a tight end that looked promising, there are certainly questions about what he might be able to do in the NFL. He was released last month by the Houston Texans and claimed by the New England Patriots.

However, he was with them for only three days before being released and claimed by the Indianapolis Colts. Once again, he was with the team for only three days before the Colts released him.

Buffalo Bills signing Kahale Warring is a low-risk deal

If the Buffalo Bills can get Kahale Warring to reach his potential and what made him a third round draft pick, then this will be a steal. He is a player that has the skill set to be a starting tight end in the NFL but considering he was released by three franchises in about a week’s time, it seems unlikely.

Considering the Buffalo Bills are able to call two players up from the practice squad on a weekly basis, it will be worth watching if Warring is one of those players at some point during the season. The fact the Bills only have three players that can play the position, it would make sense but Warring needs to show he can contribute to have the chance to play during a regular season game.
