Nick McCloud

This is a player that the Buffalo Bills likely would have wanted back but unfortunately never got the chance. Undrafted free agent Nick McCloud was the only player released by the Bills that was claimed by another team during waivers, which was the Cincinnati Bengals.

The former University of Notre Dame cornerback had an impressive preseason and it isn’t surprising to see him being claimed during waivers. He nearly had a pick-six against the Detroit Lions and did have an interception against the Chicago Bears. He also had nine total tackles this preseason, which ranked fourth on the Buffalo Bills.

The end of the depth chart at cornerback was wide open but it seemed it came down to a numbers game for the Buffalo Bills. The fact they kept seven wide receivers and 11 defensive linemen, it restricted what they could do at other positions, like cornerback where they kept only five.

The Buffalo Bills did bring back three cornerbacks on the practice squad and if McCloud wasn’t claimed, he almost certainly would have been in that group.
