Russell Okung
Release: Tyrel Dodson
The biggest question for this final free agent is going to be how much longer Russell Okung is willing to wait. In July, Okung said he was willing to be ‘super patient’ on a new deal but if he wants to be a part of a team this season, the clock is ticking.
If Russell Okung was to join the Buffalo Bills, it would be only as a backup with Dion Dawkins and Daryl Williams locked in as the starting offensive tackles. However, after these two are two rookie tackles in Spencer Brown and Tommy Doyle.
This is a big shift from what they had recently in Ty Nsekhe, who was an experienced swing tackle that could step in at a moment’s notice. Okung has primarily been a left tackle but with Josh Allen under center, having an experienced player to protect his blindside has to be a priority.
There are plenty of questions for this free agent primarily being whether he is willing to accept a backup role and a contract that likely doesn’t mean his demands. However, the Bills offer him a spot on a team that is contending for a Super Bowl and the Bills get the experienced backup that they could use at offensive tackle.
