Dean Marlowe

Release: Damar Hamlin

The Buffalo Bills have Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin as the two backup safeties to one of the best starting safety duos in the NFL, Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde. They are also one of the most durable starting duos as the two have only missed three total games over four seasons.

The hope is that neither backup will have to play much but if either does, they are both two inexperienced players since Hamlin is a rookie and Johnson has only played 102 snaps on the defensive side of the ball.

If Sean McDermott and the coaching staff want a more experienced backup, Dean Marlowe would be the perfect answer who was released this week by the Detroit Lions. He left the Bills this offseason for the Lions during free agency.

Marlowe knows this defense well after starting his career with the Carolina Panthers and has started seven games over the past three seasons with the Bills. The team also gets a player that can contribute on special teams as he played 48% of the special teams snaps last year.

Of the three players listed, this is probably the most likely free agent the team would pursue.
