Detroit Lions CB Nickell Robey-Coleman (43) tackles Buffalo Bills wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins (16) during the first half of the preseason game at Ford Field in Detroit on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021. The play was called pass interference on Robey-Coleman.

Isaiah Hodgins

Earlier this summer, Isaiah Hodgins looked like he could be the favorite for one of the final roster spots on the wide receiver depth chart. The former sixth round pick missed his entire rookie season due to injuries but was impressing Sean McDermott and Josh Allen during minicamp.

Similar to Antonio Williams, Isaiah Hodgins suffered an injury during the Lions game (it was a knee injury for Hodgins). This limited what he could do in practice and preseason from that point forward and was surpassed by players like Jake Kumerow and Marquez Stevenson on the depth chart.

However, I believe Hodgins has shown enough this summer to warrant a spot on the practice squad. It wouldn’t at all be surprising to see him eventually play a role in this offense with the potential changes at the position in the next few seasons.
