Buffalo Bills: Final 53-man roster prediction after preseason
Defensive Tackle (4)
Star Lotulelei, Ed Oliver, Justin Zimmer, Vernon Butler
Cut: Harrison Phillips, Brandin Bryant, Treyvon Hester
The defensive tackle group is another tough one to predict. Harrison Phillips has an injury that makes his status unclear and the injury is to his knee that he tore his ACL in 2019 which greats even more concern.
That may end up leaving Phillips on the outside as I have him here. The Buffalo Bills liked Justin Zimmer and the unique style and hustle he brings to the defensive line. Vernon Butler is a guy who played poorly last season because he was out of position so often will return to his regular 3-tech role. The reason I put him on the roster is that he has been a guy that the defensive coordinator has praised throughout camp as someone who cannot only contribute but has a ton of talent we could not see last year because of where he had to play.
If Phillips is cut I imagine another team would claim him. However, if that is not the case Buffalo would love to have him back on the practice squad. Hester has stuck around camp but has not had a huge impact. While Brandin Bryant played pretty well in the preseason games but left the Packers game hurt. Bryant is a top choice for the practice squad most likely but Hester could certainly be there as well.
The rest of my roster predictions went thin at the defensive tackle because of the numbers in some other positions. However, these guys have played decent showing some flashes of play that deserve a roster spot.
