Backup Wide Receiver

A room that seemed locked and predictable just a week ago got real complicated. Isaiah McKenzie, Isaiah Hodgins, and Marquez Stevenson have all picked up injuries. Gabe Davis and Cole Beasley were both sent home because of being close contacts to a Bills’ trainer who tested positive for COVID-19. That has left the Buffalo Bills with not a lot of guys to work within practice. If anything it helps Jake Kumerow a little because he got first-team reps all week and could start against the Packers.

This position group is now very hard to predict. Buffalo could keep anywhere from 6-8 wide receivers and even try and put a multiple on the IR immediately so they can return once they are healthy. This group depends on health and outside of that it seems decided.

However, Steven Sims would like to have a word. Buffalo picked up Sims this past week and although McKenzie and Stevenson have been great returners in the preseason Sims is not arguably the best on the team. After a very impressive 2019 with The Washington Football Team Sims has been less involved since but has helped the Football Team have a solid return game. He could be a sneaky name to make the roster if these injuries prove to be an issue come cut down day.

Buffalo is likely to have six guys active on game day and while the first five are Stefon Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders, Cole Beasley, Gabe Davis, and Jake Kumerow that last spot needs to be someone who can play the return roles.
