Detroit Lions running back Craig Reynolds (46) runs against Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin (31) and safety Tariq Thompson (40) during the second half of the preseason game at Ford Field in Detroit on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021. /

Tariq Thompson

One of the top names from the Buffalo Bills undrafted free agent class was safety Tariq Thompson. He was even named the best undrafted free agent for the Bills by Bleacher Report at the start of training camp.

While Thompson hasn’t necessarily played poorly, the other backup safeties have stepped up and really made the competition at the position one to watch. The battle for that final roster spot is likely coming down to Josh Thomas and sixth round draft pick Damar Hamlin.

Through two games, Thompson has three total tackles but the focus in this third preseason game could really be between Thomas and Hamlin to determine which player should make the 53-man roster.
