Third String Quarterback

This is one of the most interesting position battles going on because it could be for a position that currently does not exist. Josh Allen is Buffalo’s starter and star quarterback while Mitch Trubisky is one of the best backups in the league and a serviceable starter if Buffalo ever needed him. Behind those two it gets interesting.

The Buffalo Bills may not keep a third quarterback to keep a roster spot for another player but that decision became much harder after the game against the Lions. The two players vying for a potential 3rd string quarterback role are Davis Webb and Jake Fromm and they both played very, very well for Buffalo in the first preseason game. Webb threw for 90 yards and a touchdown and Fromm threw for 65 yards and led Buffalo on a game-winning drive.

While neither of these guys is stars and would never unseat Allen their play puts them at risk of being taken by another team if cut. Both Fromm and Webb were big parts in what Buffalo did last season helping the team and Allen prepare for each weekly matchup.

The third quarterback spot could not exist at the moment but if Webb or Fromm continue or even build on their solid play Buffalo could be thinking about keeping three quarterbacks on the roster this season. If Buffalo decides to only keep Allen and Trubisky both Webb and Fromm are still competing for a practice squad spot which would make them the third-string quarterback who is just not on the weekly roster.
