Josh Allen

Josh Allen made massive improvements across the board in 2020. He hit career highs in yards (4544), completion percentage (69.2%), passing touchdowns (37), and passer rating (107.2).

Allen finished second in MVP voting in 2020 behind the winner Aaron Rodgers, and in front of fellow AFC star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

It is hard to make a definitive argument that Allen is a better quarterback than Mahomes, but Allen could surpass some of his older competition in the conversation of best quarterback in the NFL.

The reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers turns 38 in December, and his numbers will likely decline at least a little bit after a tumultuous offseason in Green Bay.

Tom Brady turned 44 earlier this month, but he has his entire loaded offense back and continues to defy father time.

An argument can be made that Allen is currently a better quarterback than Brady, and if Allen at least maintains his 2020 form, he likely will be better than Brady in 2021.

Allen’s competition in the AFC outside of Patrick Mahomes is Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, Deshaun Watson, and Derrick Carr.

Watson is the one who comes closest to Allen, but Allen is currently the better quarterback, and Watson has had a bizarre offseason, and it is not certain that he will even play in 2021.

Patrick Mahomes will be Josh Allen’s biggest obstacle for the title of best quarterback in the NFL, but the franchise quarterback of the Buffalo Bills certainly has a chance to overcome his fellow AFC star.
