The battle for the starting cornerback position is far from over for the Buffalo Bills

Entering training camp, the Buffalo Bills didn’t have many starting jobs up for grabs. However, one spot there was going to be a position battle for a starting job was at cornerback.

The Bills brought back Levi Wallace on a one-year deal in the offseason, who has been the starter for most of the past three years. However, he was going to be pushed by last year’s seventh-round draft pick Dane Jackson. While inexperienced, Jackson showed some flashes in the limited playing time he got as a rookie last season.

Over the first two weeks of training camp, it appeared the battle wasn’t all that competitive as Levi Wallace has looked like the better player. That carried over into the first preseason game as Thad Brown of WROC tweeted Friday night during the Buffalo Bills win over the Detroit Lions:

Leslie Frazier not ready to call the competition for the Buffalo Bills

On Monday morning, Leslie Frazier met with the media and the topic of the starting cornerback position came up. While Wallace has looked like the better cornerback, the Bills defensive coordinator said the competition was still going strong, as Jon Scott tweeted.

When looking at some of these training camp battles, it has to be a balancing act between giving each player enough time to make their case but also locking in your starting lineup early enough to get everyone on the same page for the start of the season.

The one advantage the Buffalo Bills have in the second scenario is that Wallace knows this defense well and the players in the secondary. If Levi Wallace wins the job, it will be the third straight year the Buffalo Bills have the same players starting in the secondary.
