Football is upon us! Here are four players who played well in the Buffalo Bills’ preseason opener on Friday night.
On Friday night, the Buffalo Bills faced off against the Detroit Lions in the first preseason game since 2019. Although the results are meaningless in the standings, Buffalo ultimately came out on top 16-15.
In preseason action, there is often much to be desired as far as the product on the field. And Buffalo made plays on both sides of the ball. But these Bills players made a statement in their first contest of 2021.
Tyler Bass
The Buffalo Bills’ kicking game did not lack polish. Tyler Bass was 3 for 3 on field goals, including a 44-yard game-winner. This type of performance is important for Bass to provide for the Bills, as last season he was responsible for several head-scratching misses, ultimately ending his rookie season 28/34.
What is a little hair-raising about Bass’ pristine performance is the confidence he will ultimately draw from head coach Sean McDermott. In the AFC Championship, Buffalo kicked field goals in the redzone instead of going for touchdowns, which led to them being outscored because they couldn’t match points. However, while Bass is establishing himself as a reliable scorer, the Bills may be better off keeping their offense on the field in goal-to-go situations, knowing they can rely on Bass when they need just three points.
Without a doubt, Bass is the Bills’ kicker. And his game-winning performance Friday night certainly solidified his position on the roster.
