Defensive End

The defensive end position has been one of the more competitive position battles this training camp. At the top is veterans Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison, followed by an influx of young talent that has joined the team over the past two seasons (A.J. Epenesa, Greg Rousseau, Carlos Basham Jr., and Efe Obada).

One player who has been with the Bills for a few years but is now fighting for a roster spot is Darryl Johnson, who is listed on the fourth team. The Bills drafted Johnson in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft and while he has struggled to make an impact on the defensive side of the ball, he has been a key part of the special teams unit.

These preseason games are going to be important for Darryl Johnson because if he wants to remain on the Buffalo Bills, he is going to have to show he can contribute on the defensive side of the ball. The depth they now have at the position, they can’t afford to keep a defensive end who is almost exclusive a special teams contributor.
