The backup quarterback position isn’t necessarily an important one until they are needed to step into the starting lineup. For a team that has Super Bowl aspirations, they need a player they can trust to keep this offense on track if Josh Allen suffers an injury and is forced to miss extended time.

The team believes Mitchell Trubisky can be that player after they signed the former second overall pick to a one-year deal. During training camp, Trubisky has looked great and the quarterback has made nice plays like the one below.

The next step will be to show it in a game and he should have plenty of opportunities in the preseason. It is hard to imagine Josh Allen playing much over these next three games and it will be a good chance for Trubisky to run Brian Daboll’s offense.

The one thing, in particular, I will be watching is how decisive Trubisky is and if he is getting the ball out in rhythm or holding onto it.
