Buffalo Bills have long-term stability rarely found in the NFL
The extension of Josh Allen was the final piece to give the Buffalo Bills long-term stability at key positions within the franchise.
Over the past year, the Buffalo Bills have established franchise stability that is rarely found in the NFL. The biggest piece of the puzzle happened on Friday with the team agreeing to a long-term deal with quarterback Josh Allen.
However, the wheels started to go into motion last year about this time when the Bills agreed to a contract extension with head coach Sean McDermott. In addition, they also extended starting cornerback Tre’Davious White and left tackle Dion Dawkins.
The next piece was general manager Brandon Beane, who the team signed to an extension in December that aligns with head coach Sean McDermott’s contract. In free agency, the Bills thought they might lose starting linebacker Matt Milano and right tackle Daryl Williams both returned on multi-year deals.
However, the quarterback position is the most important and the Buffalo Bills now know that Josh Allen will be their starting quarterback through the 2027 season.
Buffalo Bills have the key pieces in place for sustained success
After the deal with Josh Allen, the Bills now have their starting quarterback, top cornerback, head coach, and general manager under contract through the 2025 season. In addition, they have their starting left tackle and one starting linebacker under contract through the 2024 season.
There is also an important group of players like Stefon Diggs, Micah Hyde, and Daryl Williams that are under contract for the next three seasons. While there will be plenty of roster decisions Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills will have to make over the next few seasons, the fact remains that their core group is intact for the foreseeable future.
This gives the Buffalo Bills franchise stability that they can build on that hopefully results in division titles, deep playoff runs, and ultimately Super Bowl titles.
