Wide Receiver 1: Kelvin Benjamin

Perpetually one Popeyes biscuit away from becoming a tight end, WR Kelvin Benjamin was the team’s big trade deadline acquisition in 2017, but things never materialized for Benjamin in Buffalo.

He struggled to get separation and despite being marketed as a great jump ball receiver who could catch 50/50 balls, Benjamin oftentimes made those feel more like 30/70 balls. Benjamin had an all-time bad season in 2018 catching just 23 of his 62 targets (37.1%).

Benjamin was cut in December and quickly picked up by the Chiefs where he caught just 2 passes and played 3% of the snaps. Benjamin hasn’t played a snap since that 2018 season and his NFL career may be over after his latest snafu.

Wide Receiver 2: Zay Jones

After recording 399 receptions in 4 years at East Carolina, Jones became a Bill after the team traded up to get him with the 37th pick in the 2017 draft. Zay had a crucial drop with the game on the line in Week 2 against Carolina and was never able to get over his drop issues.

His bizarre arrest before the 2018 season had only complicated matters. A good route runner Jones was able to get open and amassed 102 targets in 2018, but caught only 56 passes. . The Bills decided to bring Jones back for a third season but he showed minimal improvement and was flipped to the Raiders for a fifth-round pick after the 5th game.

Jones has managed to keep his career afloat but caught just 14 passes for 154 yards last year in his first full season with the Raiders. Jones will be fighting to make the Raider’s final roster in 2021.
