Current and former teammates of Josh Allen react to the news he agreed to a contract extension with the Buffalo Bills.

On Friday, the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen made headlines with a historic contract extension. The deal is for six years worth $258 million with $150 million guaranteed and $100 million guaranteed at signings. Those guaranteed totals were the highest ever in the NFL and his average salary of $43 million is only $2 million behind Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has an average salary of $45 million per year.

Shortly after the news broke, Josh Allen’s current and former teammates responded to the news on Twitter starting with his former backup, Matt Barkley. The veteran joined the Bills midway through Allen’s rookie season and had been the backup as recently as last season.

The Bills elected to go with Mitchell Trubisky as the backup but Matt Barkley recently found a new home with the Tennessee Titans.

In addition to Barkley, Davis Webb also celebrated the news. The former Texas Tech quarterback has spent a few seasons with the Buffalo Bills as well, but primarily as a member of the practice squad.

LeSean McCoy hasn’t played with the Buffalo Bills in the past two seasons but was a big part of this offense during Josh Allen’s rookie season.

Buffalo Bills wide receivers celebrate the news

The two players who seemingly were the most excited were starting wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley. Both players are coming off career years with Josh Allen and there is a debate about whether Josh Allen could have improved as much as he did without those two, especially Diggs.

Both players responded with a similar sentiment and referenced Terrell Owen’s infamous press conference where he defended Tony Romo.

While Isaiah McKenzie didn’t have anything to say on Twitter, he did retweet the announcement and certainly is excited. A few days earlier, he tweeted that he and Josh Allen were Spikeball champions.
