The Buffalo Bills offense was ranked as one of the best in the league by Pro Football Focus.
The Buffalo Bills offense had an incredible season due in large part to their passing attack and the development of quarterback Josh Allen. All indications from training camp this year are that the offense is going to pick up right where it left off last season.
Pro Football Focus recently released their rankings of every offense entering the 2021 season and instead of ranking the teams in order, they broke them into tiers. At the top was the Elite tier and the Bills were one of five teams to be grouped together. Sam Monson wrote about the Bills:
"Josh Allen’s breakout 2020 season propelled the Bills offense into a different realm the franchise hasn’t visited for a long time. Allen’s overall PFF grade jumped from 64.1 in 2019 to 90.3 last season and put him among the very best players in the league. Stefon Diggsalso proved to be a shrewd acquisition, as he thrived with the extra opportunity he received within the Buffalo passing attack. This offense is also one of the league’s most cutting edge in terms of pass-happy balance on neutral downs, giving them an analytics boost over many other units in the league."
The Buffalo Bills were joined by the Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, and Cleveland Browns. These are all excellent offenses and it is no surprise that four of the five teams in this group played in their Conference Championship Games last year.
These four teams have another common theme and that is they are bringing back almost their entire starting offense from last year. The Bucs were able to re-sign players like Chris Godwin and Leonard Fournette and the Packers were able to re-sign running back Aaron Jones while also reconciling with Aaron Rodgers.
For the Buffalo Bills, the focus was bringing back starters on the offensive line by re-signing Daryl Williams and Jon Feliciano. While that may not directly result in touchdowns, it will be important for Josh Allen to have time in the pocket to find the playmakers around him.
Another important piece was the fact that Brian Daboll didn’t leave for a head coaching job. He interviewed for a number of openings but ultimately stayed with the franchise for one more season. Having Daboll’s creativity and play-calling on the sideline for one more year should be a boost for Josh Allen and the other players in this offense.
