Pat Freiermuth
Over the years, the Steelers have had a number of good tight ends and they hoped that Eric Ebron could add his name to that group last year. However, he didn’t match the production from prior years and the Pittsburgh Steelers added tight end Pat Freiermuth in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The former Penn State tight end was one that looked like a potential target for the Buffalo Bills as he was one of the top tight ends in this draft class and the Bills had a need at the position. He ultimately would remain in the state and be drafted by the Steelers.
Freiermuth had a great start to his career at Penn State with 15 receiving touchdowns in the first two years. This past season though he played in only four games due to a shoulder injury and was limited to 23 receptions, 310 receiving yards, and one touchdown.
While it would make sense for the Steelers to want to get all their rookies as much work as possible during the preseason, they could be a little cautious with the tight end and keep him out of Thursday night’s game. Freiermuth suffered a shoulder injury on Wednesday during practice, according to Nick Farabaugh.
If Pat Freiermuth does play, the Bills will want to pay close attention as it wouldn’t be surprising if Freiermuth was the starting tight end over Eric Ebron in Week 1.
