Jake Fromm

In the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills made a surprise selection when they drafted quarterback Jake Fromm. The move was surprising because quarterback wasn’t considered much of a need with Josh Allen under center.

However, Brandon Beane said that the selection of Fromm was just “too good to pass up” at the time. The thought was with Matt Barkley in his final year of his contract that Fromm could step in as the backup to Josh Allen starting this year.

The Bills instead elected to go with a veteran as their backup with the free agent signing of Mitchell Trubisky. This now raises the question of where Fromm fits on the roster and what his role might be.

The Bills have typically only kept two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster and with an experienced quarterback like Trubisky, there isn’t much reason to keep a third quarterback. Instead, the Bills may try to use that roster spot at another position which would mean that Jake Fromm would be one of the players cut before the season.
