As Carson Wentz is injured again, here’s what a Mitchell Trubisky trade to the Colts might look like.

It’s groundhog season for Carson Wentz, as this time it’s his foot that required surgery. With Wentz being out 5-12 weeks, maybe it’s time to already trade Mitchell Trubisky. While the Colts did sign former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Brett Hundley, they might be tempted to have more insurance on the roster.

Enter Mitchell Trubisky, the Bills’ backup quarterback. The upside to the Colts making an offer for the former Chicago Bears QB is that they’ll have someone who has more experience than Hundley.

What’s unknown is if Frank Reich would be able to breathe life back into Trubisky’s game, as he struggled with explosive plays and making plays on the run. This was shown in the latter half of a YouTube video published by Brett Kollman. The video shows how Justin Fields is masking the problems of Trubisky and Nick Foles.

While Jacob Eason is on the roster as well, it may not be wise to have him be the starter as a rookie.

What a potential Mitchell Trubisky-Colts trade would look like:

I don’t expect the Buffalo Bills to trade for a player. But being able to flip a quarterback for a decent enough draft pick can yield some success. Remember when the Sam Bradford Eagles-Vikings trade that helped Philly get a first-round pick?

Now that may just be an outlier in itself, and Trubisky won’t garner a first-rounder, let’s be clear. It could be as high as a third, and it would be a great starting point for the trade talks. If it goes lower than that, fine.

Acquiring draft capital isn’t a bad idea for a team trying to make it to the Super Bowl. Sometimes it’s just having adequate 4th round (or later) picks that help you get to football’s biggest stage.

This would really let the Bills see what they have in Jake Fromm and potentially Davis Webb. Letting these two backups duke it out in the preseason is what it’s there for.
