Buffalo Bills: 5 players who could be the unsung heroes of 2021
Matt Breida
Matt Breida signed with the Buffalo Bills this offseason to a one-year deal and he brings an intriguing skill set to the Buffalo backfield. Breida brings speed that neither Devin Singletary nor Zack Moss has as well as a couple of very successful seasons in the NFL. Breida started his career in San Francisco where he had two seasons where he ran for over 600 yards with his yards per attempt over five in both seasons. Breida then moved to Miami for his fourth season and had a widely disappointing season only registering 59 carries and one start.
So why can Breida be an unsung hero this season? It is really simple, Breida’s speed is a weapon that can be used in a variety of ways. Breida has the skillset to be the big-play threat that Buffalo was missing in its backfield the previous two seasons.
While many fans may have preferred a name such as Travis Etienne to be that guy, Breida is not much of a downgrade from the rookie who was picked 25th overall by Jacksonville. Breida can both run the ball and be an asset in the passing game due to his speed. While he is slightly slimmer than Moss and Singletary he certainly can hold his own in between the tackles.
Breida could be an unsung hero because he has the potential to make game-changing plays this season. Breida could have a small role all season but if he is able to make some huge plays of 40+ yards or long touchdowns it will give the Bills an asset on offense they did not have last season. That alone could make Breida an unsung hero. Add that with the fact that he was an under-the-radar signing that most of the league did not notice and the Bills may have struck gold.
