What will Isaiah McKenzie’s role be with the Buffalo Bills in 2021?

Isaiah McKenzie was signed by the Buffalo Bills midway through the 2018 season after he was released by the Denver Broncos. Every year since then McKenzie’s role has grown in this offense as he has become that gadget player for the Bills.

However, entering 2021 he has an opportunity to expand his impact on this team if he wins a key training camp battle.

2020 Stats

Last season, Isaiah McKenzie played only 25% of the offensive snaps but was still very effective when on the field. He finished the year with 30 receptions on 34 targets and had an incredible 88.2% catch rate.

He would finish the season with 282 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns, which were both career highs. McKenzie also had a 12-yard touchdown pass which he connected with Josh Allen in the game against the Arizona Cardinals.

In addition, he gave the Bills coaching staff a glimpse of what he might be able to do as a returner in the regular season finale against the Miami Dolphins with two kickoff returns as well as one punt return. On the punt return, he took back 84 yards for a touchdown.

Expectations for the 2021 season with the Buffalo Bills

Isaiah McKenzie’s role on the offensive side of the ball is pretty well set and barring an injury, he will likely remain a gadget player for this offense and play roughly a quarter of the snaps.

However, where there is an opportunity to be a bigger part of this team in 2021 is as a returner. The Bills will be looking for Andre Roberts replacement and it would make sense that McKenzie was the favorite entering training camp.
