Buffalo Bills wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders

The Buffalo Bills signed Emmanuel Sanders earlier in the offseason to replace John Brown, who they released back in March. Sanders is coming off a season in New Orleans where he caught 61 passes for 726 yards and five touchdowns.

While on the surface those numbers are just okay, it is worth noting that he was without Drew Brees for four of the 14 games he played.

The main concern with Sanders now is his age. He turned 34 in the offseason, and is now the oldest player on the Bills roster.

Sanders is not guaranteed to be the number two receiver for Buffalo in 2021. His main competition is second-year receiver Gabriel Davis, who had a very promising rookie campaign where he scored a touchdown for every five catches he made.

That type of production is tough for an aging veteran like Sanders to keep up with, and given that Sanders and Davis are on two different production trajectories entering 2021, it will take a fantastic training camp for Sanders to beat out Davis for the number two spot on the receiver depth chart.

Regardless of whether he is second or fourth on the depth chart, Sanders will certainly play a role in the Buffalo offense. If he wants a significant role, he will have to prove that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
