The greatest Buffalo Bills player to wear #48:

Originally drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the 5th round of the 1975 NFL Draft, Leaks had a near-duplicate career with both teams he played for. After accumulating 1,268 yards and 14 touchdowns in Baltimore, Leaks gained nearly the same amount in Buffalo.

Leaks got 1,138 yards on the ground and matched his touchdown total with 14 for the Bills. Leaks was also the first black player in Texas’ football history. He fought through injuries in the spring camp of his senior year, but Earl Campbell’s emergence meant Leaks took a back seat. Leaks is enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame class of 2005.

Mr. Leaks was also so close to another collegiate football milestone, coming in third place for the Heisman Trophy voting. His impact on the Longhorns’ football team will always be remembered for being a trailblazer and a history maker.  He held many records until Ricky Williams and Campbell broke them during their time wearing the burnt orange.
