Buffalo Bills: Predicting the WR depth chart entering training camp

WR2: Gabriel Davis

Gabriel Davis had a promising rookie season for the Buffalo Bills. He caught 35 passes for 599 yards and seven touchdowns, just one behind Stefon Diggs. Davis averaged 17.1 yards per catch, which was good for fourth amongst all rookie wide receivers in 2020.

With the departure of John Brown, the number two spot on the receiver depth chart in Buffalo is Davis’ for the taking.

Davis was a valuable red zone target for Josh Allen during his rookie season. Chase Claypool was the only rookie who caught more touchdown passes than Davis did. In 2020, he caught a touchdown every five catches. That pace is not sustainable, but it supports the belief in Davis’ upside as a receiver.

Davis also developed a knack for being able to make incredible catches; his Week 2 touchdown catch against the Dolphins, his jumping catch over Chargers cornerback Tevaughn Campbell,  and his two spectacular sideline catches against the Colts in the Wild Card round are few that come to mind.

Davis has the edge on free agent acquisition Emmanuel Sanders due to his upside, awareness of his position on the field, and his abilities in the red zone.

Davis should be the favorite to line up across the field from Diggs, but he will have to battle with the ever consistent Emmanuel Sanders for it.
