Last year, the Buffalo Bills offense had a breakout year largely due to the connection Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs had. This was Diggs first year with the team and the two players clicked almost immediately and had career years together.

Allen, would throw for over 4,500 passing yards, 37 passing touchdowns and finish second in MVP voting and earn his first trip to the Pro Bowl. Meanwhile, Diggs would lead the league in receptions (127), receiving yards (1,535), and targets (166). He also would earn his first Pro Bowl nomination as well as make the first-team All-Pro for the first time in his career.

There is a case that could be made that both Allen and Diggs are Top 3 currently at their position however that was not enough to rank in the Top 3 in CBS Sports latest article ranking the top duos in the NFL.

The rankings put together by Cody Benjamin were put together by treating these rankings similar to a draft and which duo they would want if they were starting a team. They included all positions but put more weight on key positions and took into account past performance as well as future projection.

Based on this, the Buffalo Bills duo ranked fourth and surprisingly behind the Los Angeles Chargers duo of Justin Herbert and Keenan Allen. Benjamin wrote about the Bills:

"4. Bills (QB Josh Allen, WR Stefon Diggs)Tre’Davious White could be included instead of Diggs, but Allen’s connection with the WR is electric and steady. We’d rather have Russ than Allen, but Diggs is the more refined wideout, balancing things out."

The comparison between these two teams is easy as the positions are the same (quarterback, wide receiver) so neither team can claim increased positional value. When looking at Stefon Diggs and Keenan Allen, Diggs has had the bigger career year but Allen has had more 1,000-yard seasons (4 for Allen, 3 for Diggs).

If the two wide receivers are close, then this means that Josh Allen and Justin Herbert would have be equally as close. Benjamin wrote that the combination of Herbert and Allen are “poised to be Pro Bowl studs” and that is why they edge out the Bills.

However, Allen and Diggs already have been named to the Pro Bowl and look set up to be fixtures at the event for years to come. Meanwhile, all four players are close in age with Diggs two years younger than Keenan Allen while Justin Herbert is two years younger than Josh Allen so neither duo really has an edge in terms of future production.

While the Buffalo Bills were unlikely to be ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs or Green Bay Packers, the duo of Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs is good enough to be ranked third.
